American Idol: A Night Of Shocks And Thrills
Welcome to Wednesday night on American Idol! Tonight, six become five after one more contestant is eliminated. After having some more time to think about Tuesday night's show, I've decided that this top six is a pretty good one. There are three people of the six that I wouldn't mind seeing win so for now, 50% odds is good enough for me.
Tuesday night's theme was Classic Love Songs. The contestants got help from both Andrea Bocelli and record producer David Foster. They were also all given some tough love as David seems to be a brutally honest guy. I personally think this is exactly what the contestants need at this point of the game. After Tuesday's show, I thought the bottom three would be Paris, Kellie and Katharine with Paris going home. Paris has been in the bottom three before and just doesn't seem to be as popular as some of the others.
Her performances are always good but extremely varied from week to week. I'm not sure if she has a solid, dedicated voting fan base. I went out on a limb by choosing Kellie as another bottom three contestant but I honestly think it could happen. I personally grew tired of her fake dumb blond routine weeks ago but I think America is finally starting to see through it as well. She's always been a decent singer but an incredibly boring performer. Last night was no exception and I think it will finally catch up with her.
As for Katharine, she was actually my favorite of the night which shouldn't surprise most of you. I thought her performance of I Have Nothing was not only her personal best, but it was one of my favorite performances of the whole season. The judges were extremely harsh and critical which of course had me screaming conspiracy. I'm convinced the judges/producers now realize that Kat is a threat for the finale which of course, they did not predict. And we all know how much Simon hates to be wrong. Whether or not that is true, I obviously don't know for sure. I just couldn't think of another explanation because honestly, she wasn't that bad.
Tonight's results show begins the same as always. Dramatic Ryan welcomes us and introduces the judges and contestants. He then tells us that America broke their own record last night as 47.5 million votes were cast. I guess having two lines for each contestant freed up some of the congestion and allowed more people to actually get through. That was not the case for me though. I tried about 10 times to get through for Katharine and could not. My mom also tried to vote for Elliott and I believe Taylor and she could not get through for either of those two as well.
Ryan decides to question the judges about last night's show, specifically some of the more unkind comments. Simon starts by saying that he stands by everything he said except in one instance. He says he feels he was much too critical and overly cruel to… Kat! Aw Simon! You're the man right now! He uses his same old excuse of saying that things always sound much different on TV than they do live but somehow, I think there is probably more to it than that.
After we see the recap of last night's show, we see this week's cheesy Ford commercial. This week's song is Call Me which I'm sure Blondie fully appreciates. Not much to say, same old crap as always. Andrea and David then join Ryan center stage.
After some brief chatting about Andrea's newest tour, Andrea performances a song entitled Because We Believe while being assisted on piano by David. As I said before with some of these artists, I don't want to knock them too much because clearly they are hugely talented.
Andrea's music is not really my style though.
It is finally time for the eliminations.....
